Encountering Jesus through Prayer
WEEK 1
2/14/24
Read John 1:35-39. In these verses, Jesus asks, “What are you seeking?” Answer this question in your prayer today. Tell Jesus what you are seeking and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you to seek what is of the Lord.
2/15/24
Read John 1:40-42. Andrew’s reaction after deciding to follow Jesus is to include his brother. Pray for a family member or friend who needs to know the message of Jesus and encounter Jesus for themselves.
2/16/24
Read John 1:43-51. Nathanael’s first impression of Jesus isn’t accurate, but when he meets Jesus he praises Him for who He is. Spend time praying that God would uproot any wrong assumptions you have made about Jesus and replace them with truth about who Jesus is.
WEEK 2

Read John 3:3. As you pray today, ask God to renew your mind and heart so that you can fully experience the kingdom of God.
2/20/24
Read John 3:4-7. Nicodemus is confused by the concept of being “born again.” Meditate on this idea in your prayer today, asking the Lord to remind you of ways your life has changed by being “born again.”

Read John 3:16. This verse is one of the most familiar in the whole Bible, but do your best to read it with fresh eyes today. What does this verse tell us about Jesus’s nature? As you pray today, express the importance of your belief in Jesus and your gratitude for what He has done for you.

Read John 3:17-18. In what ways do you feel condemned? Do you live as if Jesus has condemned you or saved you? Talk to God about your answer to these questions.

Read John 3:19-21. What does it mean to “live by the truth?” Ask the Holy Spirit to convict you of ways you may have walked in darkness instead of light this week, and ask for wisdom to choose deeds of light instead of deeds of darkness and shame.

Read John 4:1-6. Jesus chose a spot to rest where no Jewish person would have stopped at that time. Samaritans were hated by Jews. What does this tell you about Jesus’s character? His mission? As you pray today, ask God to renew your heart so that you will see people the way Jesus does.
2/27/24
In John 4, Jesus offers living water to the woman at the well. Pray that we would desire a thirst and hunger for the presence of Christ and greater knowledge of Him through His word. Use Psalm 119:15-16 as a prayer today.
2/28/24
Skim John 4:15-26. Take a moment to look at Jeremiah 1:5 and Matthew 10:30 as well. Pray that you would know Jesus as well as He knows each one of us.

Read John 4:22-26. Pray that as you know Jesus better, that your knowledge would lead to intimate worship. Use Psalm 139:13-18 to worship Him- speak these words as a prayer today.

Read John 4:34-42. Pray that as we grow to know Jesus more, that we would have His heart to share with others near and far.
WEEK 4
3/4/24
Read John 5:1-6. Don’t hesitate to ask God for help today with a situation that feels too difficult or as if it will never end. No matter how long or how difficult the struggle, He cares and He sees you! 1 John 5:14-15 reminds us that He hears anything we ask. Pray boldly for God to change circumstances today.

Read Ephesians 3:20. Remember a time when God has rescued or healed you, physically or spiritually. Spend time praising Him for what he has done in your life.
3/6/24
Read John 5:10-12. The Jews have a choice here to choose their own understanding or believe in Jesus’s supernatural power as the Son of God. Use Proverbs 3:5-6 to pray that you would not lean on your own understanding, but instead seek God’s wisdom in all things.

Read John 5:14. Even though Jesus healed this man physically, the man still needs spiritual healing, as do we! Use Psalm 51:10-12 as a prayer today, confessing any unresolved sin in your heart.

In John 5, Jesus’s encounter with the man at the pool led to this man’s healing. Pray that as you know more about who Jesus is, you would see people the way He sees people and look for opportunities to offer tangible help to someone today.
WEEK 5
3/11/24
Read John 9:3. When we see someone (or ourselves) broken or hurting, it’s easy to ask God, “Why would you do this?” Pray today instead, “What works of God can be displayed in this circumstance?” Pray that the works of God would be displayed in the lives of those who are in desperate need of answers.
3/12/24
In John 9, the Pharisees respond to the healing with disbelief, ridicule, and prejudice. Their encounter with Jesus leads to these reactions. Pray that when you encounter Jesus working in people’s hearts, or difficult circumstances, you would be open to life change, and not stuck in preconceptions, skepticism, or doubt.

Read Philippians 1:6. Pray that you would have confidence that the works Jesus has begun in your life will come to completion.
3/14/24
Read John 9:18-23. The parents of the man born blind have an opportunity to rejoice in their son’s encounter with Jesus that has resulted in Jesus healing their son. However, they choose fear and evasion instead, afraid of the cost of joy and belief in Jesus. Pray today that you would respond to encounters with Jesus with an open, joyful heart, instead of being afraid or cynical.

Read John 9:35-41. When Jesus asks the man if he believes in the “Son of Man”, the man responds, “Who is he, sir, that I might believe in him?” We can come to God with the same question today: “Who is Jesus, that I might believe in him?” Ask God to reveal the nature of Jesus to you today so that your belief in him can be secure.
WEEK 6

Read John 11:1-3, Consider what it means about the sisters' relationship with Jesus that they want to send for him when thelr brother is ill. Do you turn to Jesus when you feel overwhelmed by the needs of those you lever Spend some time telling Him about the burdens you are carrying for others today.

Read John 11:4 and Jehn 9:3, Not the similarities between these two verses. Pray that God would be glerified and that His works would be displayed in the midst of difficulties that you face today.
3/20/24
Read John 11:20-27. Think about how you would have responded if you were Martha. As you pray today, talk to Ged about something that has disappointed you. Then, spend time speaking truths about who Jesus is te combat any lies that disappointment has sown in your heart.

Read John 11:32-36, Write down words that describe Jesus's character based on His actions in these verses. As you pray, call on Him to be these things in your life today.
3/22/24
Read John 12:1-8, and note how Mary expresses her gratitude to Jesus for resurrecting her brother. In your prayer today, express your gratitude to Jesus for what He has done in your life. Let your worship anoint Jesus just as Mary anointed Him with expensive ointment.
WEEK 7
3/25/24
Read John 18:25-27. Then, read Acts 4:13-20. Note the change in Peter that has taken place between John 18 and Acts 4. Peter has been transformed by resurrection power that has deepened his faith. Do you feel more like the Peter in John 18 or the Peter in Acts 4 today? Ask the Lord to deepen your faith in Him today - that you would have heart transformation that leads to boldness for the sake of the Gospel.

Read Isaiah 53. Prophesied in the Old Testament the final days of Jesus were according to God’s sovereign plan. Ask God to allow you to trust in His sovereignty in your own life. Ask God to allow us as a church to trust in His sovereignty in our lives corporately.
3/27/24
Read John 19:10-11 & Isaiah 53:8-10. Jesus recognizes that all authority is given by the Father, and submits to earthly authority in this instance. Do you believe the same, or do you struggle to trust God and try to claim authority for yourself? Talk to God about authority today. May we trust and know that God’s sovereign plan is right and perfectly timed in every circumstance. Lord, ready our hearts today to obey in submission to your will in Christ Jesus.

Read John 19:16-30. Meditate on this scene, thinking about what Jesus endured and what that says about His love for you, and talk to God about your thoughts and emotions.
3/29/24
Read John 19:38-42. One of these people should be familiar - we encountered Nicodemus in John chapter 3. You can see that Nicodemus has had his life changed through Jesus. As you pray today, consider how Jesus has changed your life and/or wants to change your life. Know that forgiveness is all ours if we only believe in Jesus and and trust His forgivness is greater than all our sins, Pray also for the opportunity to share the Gospel with someone the Spirit has made open and ready to encounter Jesus.
