Vision Statement

Highlands United Methodist Church is a community of disciples of Christ;
a beacon of hope, inviting all to become new persons in Christ
 to be sent into the world to share the Gospel
and to serve our neighbors;
and a sanctuary for those in need of God’s love and grace.

As disciples of Christ:
  • we are an open and inviting church, and we welcome people from all walks of life. We recognize that members of all ages, including children, youth, and older adults are vital to the life of our congregation. We listen to discern God’s will for us and our church.
  •
  • we are challenged by strong worship services that are filled with inspirational and challenging sermons, personal and corporate prayer, and traditional liturgy. Sacred music is a vital part of our worship and has a profound effect on those who participate.
  •
  • we strengthen relationships with God and each other in small groups, and are transformed through prayer, study, fellowship, and service. We care deeply for each other and are nurtured during difficult times through prayer, congregational, and ministerial support. We are known for our unique and stimulating children and youth ministries that attract and engage young people of all ages and backgrounds.
  •
  • we launch and offer a variety of successful ministries to assist and serve those in the community, city, and world who need special support. All who participate, both by giving and receiving services, experience transformation through the exchange of Christ’s love and grace.
  •
  • we respect the value and responsibility of being a magnificent and historical city landmark located in the heart of Five Points, South. We help changes lives through programs such as Community Ministries and Project I.D. We partner with the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham-Southern College, other colleges, and the community to enrich our learning, spiritual growth, and capacity to serve.
