Long Range Plan

Section II:  Priorities Identified as Strengths to Continue to Grow

Effective churches know people attract people more than programs do.   Generally, they have two to three really competent programs that serve rather than use people.   Following are the recommendations of the Long Range Planning Committee 2004 regarding identified priorities as strengths.

1.                  Several Competent Programs & Activities

A.     Strengthen our relationship and communications to the Child Care Center

B.     Expand our connection with the urban community

C.     Establish a volunteer coordinator and/or lay mobilization position

2.                  Corporate and Dynamic Worship

A.     Increase information about worship activities both to community and to church members

B.     Improve feeling of welcome for visitors to worship service, new members and follow up of inactive members

C.     Study Sunday morning worship services

D.     Develop funeral policy and bereavement services

Section III:  Priorities to Improve Upon

Based on the information that we reviewed and input we received from the congregation, the Long Range Planning Team has identified three keys that we wish to prioritize.  We propose that the Long Range Plan include these keys as goals for our church for the next three years to continue to build and strengthen.

1.      Specific, Concrete Missional Objectives

1.                                                                                                          A.  Provide caring service to all people who live and work in our community through Outreach Ministries

2.                                                                                                          B.  Provide quality, affordable child care to the community through the Highlands Child Care Center

3.                                                                                                          C.  Provide alternative entertainment ministry for individuals in the Southside community

2.      Significant Relational Groups

1.                                                                                                          A.  Evaluate other models of significant relational and small group ministries

2.                                                                                                          B.  Develop relational groups for new members

3.                                                                                                          C.  Develop significant relational groups within the church

3.      Pastoral/Lay Visitation in the Community

A.     Develop a written visitation policy

B.     Designate a special day each year at the church to recognize in worship homebound members
