Highlands UMC Child Development Center is a family oriented center for children ranging in age from 6 weeks to 4 years. The center endeavors to have an open and inclusive program designed to meet the needs of church and community members. HCDC is licensed by DHR and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Early childhood programs accredited by the NAEYC Academy for Early Childhood Program Acceditation have voluntarily undergone a comprehensive process of internal self-study and improvement.
Highlands is dedicated to a child centered approach to education and care giving. HCDC implements the creative curriculum interaction and learning are planned to encourage the child’s development in the areas of social, emotional, cognitive, and physical skills. Highlands CDC is a high quality early childhood program. High-quality programs provide a safe and nurturing environment while promoting the development of young children. NAEYC-accedited programs show their quality by meeting the 10 NAEYC Early Childhood Program Standards, which are based on the latest research on the education and development of young children. All NAEYC-accredited programs must

7. establish and maintain collaborative relationships with families.
8. establish and maintain relationships with and use resources of the community.
9. provide a safe and healthy physical environment.
10. implement strong program management policies that result in high-quality service.
